I saw my sister-in-law throw an old brown suitcase into the water… I pulled it out of the water, but when I opened it, I nearly dropped my phone in horror 😨
I still do not understand why that day I decided to follow Emilia.

It probably all started with her lie.
Returning home after an appointment with the doctor, I accidentally noticed my sister-in-law’s car ahead of me. This surprised me, because Emilia was supposed to be in a completely different part of the city. I immediately called her and, trying to speak calmly, asked where she was.
— At home, she answered almost instantly. — I’m making a pie.
I silently looked at her car, which was driving right in front of me.
At that moment, a chill ran down my spine.
She was lying to me.
I did not say that I could see her, and I asked the driver to keep following. A few minutes later, Emilia turned onto an empty road. There were no houses or people around. Finally, she stopped near an old bridge.
I felt anxiety even before she got out of the car.
Emilia looked around several times, then opened the trunk and took out a large brown suitcase.
I froze.
This suitcase I knew too well.
It belonged to my late husband Viktor. After his death, I gave it to our son Mark, and since then it had been kept at their home.
I could not understand why Emilia had brought it here.
She dragged the heavy suitcase with difficulty to the edge of the bridge. She stood motionless for a few seconds, as if gathering her strength, and then suddenly pushed it forward.
I saw the suitcase disappear into the water.
My breath caught.
At that second, I understood that I had to find out what she was trying to hide.
I waited until Emilia left, then rushed to the shore. The suitcase had caught on the branches, and the current had not yet managed to carry it far. The water was icy, my hands were trembling, but I still managed to grab the handle and pull it onto the shore.
For a while I simply looked at it.
I was afraid to open it.
But it was even more frightening to leave everything as it was.
I slowly unzipped the suitcase.
And in the next second, I recoiled so sharply that I almost fell.
My heart was beating madly, my hands trembled even more, and only one thought flashed through my mind:
What has Emilia done?
I took out my phone and was already about to call the police. My finger froze above the screen.
No.
Mark had to see it first. With trembling hands, I dialed my son’s number.
— Mom? What happened?
I had difficulty forcing myself to speak.
— Mark, come to me. Immediately.
— What happened?
I looked at the open suitcase and felt a chill run through my body again.
— Before I call the police… you have to see this with your own eyes. 😱

Mark arrived in less than twenty minutes. I had never seen him so alarmed. He entered the house without even taking off his jacket and immediately asked:
— Mom, what happened? Why did you talk about the police?
I silently led him into the yard, where under the awning stood the old brown suitcase.
Mark stopped.
— Where did it come from?
— Open it, I said quietly.
He slowly bent down and unzipped it. At first his face expressed nothing, but a few seconds later he abruptly recoiled.
Inside lay Emilia’s wet clothes. On the fabric were dark stains that the water had not managed to wash away. Under the clothes was a kitchen knife.
— This… is impossible, whispered Mark.
At that moment, behind my back, a familiar voice was heard.
— I can explain everything.
We turned around at the same time.
On the threshold stood Emilia.
She saw the open suitcase and turned pale. She was silent for a few seconds, then sank onto a chair and covered her face with her hands.
It turned out that in the morning a man whom Emilia had once known well had come to their home. He had been stalking her for many years and had begun threatening her again. A quarrel occurred between them. The man grabbed the knife, and Emilia tried to defend herself. In the struggle, he was wounded and ran out of the house.
Frightened, Emilia decided to hide the things and the knife, instead of immediately seeking help.
— I thought that if everything disappeared, the nightmare would end too, she cried.
But a few minutes later, the doorbell rang.
On the threshold stood police officers.
The man had been found alive and had already told them what had happened.
I looked at Emilia and understood: sometimes a single mistake, made out of fear, can turn out to be more dangerous than the truth itself. And the sooner a person decides to look it in the eye, the more chances they have to fix everything.
