The most dangerous inmate abruptly tore the blanket off the old woman and threw it into a dirty puddle on the floor, not even imagining how this cruel act would end…

The old woman was peacefully sleeping on her lower bunk, wrapped in an old plaid blanket that was her only protection against the night cold.

Suddenly, heavy footsteps echoed through the barracks.

The most dangerous inmate, named Vanessa, stopped by her bed, smirked, and with one sharp motion tore the blanket off the old woman. It immediately fell right into a wet puddle on the concrete floor.

The old woman opened her eyes in fright and tried to sit up.

“Hey, get up. You’re going to wash my clothes,” Vanessa said rudely, tossing a huge bag of dirty laundry next to the bed.

Several inmates chuckled quietly.

Scenes like this happened almost every day.

The old woman was constantly forced to do the hardest work. She mopped floors, washed other people’s clothes, carried heavy buckets of water, and never complained to anyone. Everyone knew full well that she was elderly, frail, and barely on her feet — but that was exactly why they chose her as their victim.

Many didn’t even know why she was in prison in the first place.

A few years earlier, her own nephew had used her documents in a fraudulent scheme. He convinced the woman to simply sign papers, assuring her that he was helping with inheritance paperwork. When everything came to light, the nephew vanished with the money, and she was the one found guilty.

She had been here completely alone ever since.

Vanessa leaned toward the old woman and said mockingly:

“If the clothes aren’t perfectly clean by evening, tomorrow you’ll be left without a blanket entirely. Maybe then you’ll learn to work faster.”

The old woman just quietly looked at her and silently began picking up the wet blanket from the floor.

She didn’t even try to argue.

From the outside, it seemed like she no longer cared. But at that very moment, something happened that left everyone in the prison frozen in shock.

But just then, the prison warden entered the barracks along with a man in a strict suit and two officers.

The chatter immediately died down.

All the inmates quickly returned to their places.

Vanessa just smirked, thinking the inspection would soon be over.

The man was carefully inspecting the premises when his gaze suddenly stopped on the old woman, who was trying to wring out the wet blanket with trembling hands.

He slowly walked closer and said in surprise:

“Excuse me… Your name is Anna Sergeyevna?”

The old woman looked up and didn’t recognize him at first.

“Yes…”

The man took a deep breath.

“Two months ago, your case was reopened. The real culprit has been detained. Your nephew has fully confessed that he used your documents and deliberately set you up. Today, the court overturned the verdict. I came personally to tell you that you are free.”

Such silence fell over the barracks that you could hear water dripping from the wet blanket.

The warden slowly turned to Vanessa.

She had already noticed the dirty puddle, the wet blanket, and the bag of someone else’s clothes next to the bed.

Several inmates immediately lowered their heads.

One of them quietly said:

“She made the old lady do all of this…”

The warden was silent for a few seconds, then calmly said:

“Pull up the camera footage from the past few months. We’ll check who and how treated this woman.”

The smile instantly vanished from Vanessa’s face.

She suddenly realized that the cameras had been recording not only the corridors but the entire barracks all this time.

A few days later, an internal investigation was launched against her. She was stripped of all privileges, transferred to the strictest cell block, and forced to do the very hard labor she had been dumping on others for years.

And the old woman walked out of the prison gates for the first time in a long time, with a small bag in her hands.

Before getting into the car, she looked back at the old wet blanket, which the staff had managed to dry and fold neatly.

She smiled quietly and said:

“Sometimes the truth comes too late… But it still comes.”
