When I was allowed to bathe my grandson for the first time, I accidentally saw what my daughter-in-law had been trying to hide from me for so long. Seeing it, I literally froze in place, and a second later I heard her frightened voice behind me… 😨
After the birth of little Oliver, I tried to help the young parents in everything. I cooked dinner, folded the baby’s things, cleaned the apartment and stayed with the little one so that his mother, Laura, could at least get some sleep. However, she did not trust anyone with bathing her son. “Thank you, but I’d rather do it myself,” Laura softly answered each time I offered help.

At first I did not attach any significance to this. But one day she caught a bad cold and could barely stand on her feet. I again offered to bathe the little one, but Laura unexpectedly pressed her son to herself. “Forgive me… I just can’t.” There was such anxiety in her voice that I stopped asking.
A few weeks later, Laura and her husband came to us for a family dinner. After the meal, she lay down on the sofa for just five minutes and almost instantly fell asleep. Then my son Michael quietly said: “Mom, will you bathe Oliver today? Let Laura sleep a little.” I gladly agreed. In the bathroom, the little one splashed happily while I undressed him.
But when I got to the shirt, my hands suddenly froze. Between the shoulder blades was carefully glued a waterproof plaster, which had clearly already been changed more than once. I carefully lifted the edge. Underneath there was neither a scratch nor a scar. There was a dark birthmark of unusual shape. I knew only one person with exactly the same mark.
“No… This can’t be,” I whispered. In the corridor, quick steps were heard. Laura appeared in the doorway, saw the plaster on the floor and turned pale.
“You took it off?..” she asked in a trembling voice. 😱😱

I slowly turned to Laura. “Why were you hiding this mark?” She was silent for a few seconds, and then sat down on the edge of the bathtub. Tears appeared in her eyes. “Because I knew: you would recognize it immediately.” Everything inside me went cold. The same birthmark was on my younger son Alexander, Michael’s brother. He died several years ago, and this feature was always between his shoulder blades.
“What does Alexander have to do with Oliver?” I asked, barely audibly. At that moment Michael entered the bathroom. Seeing our faces, he immediately understood everything. “Mom, Laura didn’t deceive me. I knew from the very beginning.”
It turned out that shortly before his death, Alexander was undergoing treatment during which biological material was preserved. Later it became clear that because of a long-standing health problem, Michael had almost no chance of becoming a father. Then the couple, after long doubts and medical consultations, decided to use Alexander’s material.
“We wanted a child who would remain part of our family,” Michael quietly explained. “But we were afraid to tell you. We thought you would see only Alexander in Oliver.” I looked at the little one, calmly splashing in the water, and felt the tension gradually release. Laura burst into tears. “I covered the mark only because I was afraid of causing you pain.” I went up and hugged her. “You should have told me the truth. But Oliver is not guilty of anything.”
That evening we calmly talked about everything for the first time. The secret that Laura had hidden for so long under a small plaster finally stopped dividing our family.
