To punish a homeless boy who had stolen food from the table, Caesar ordered him to be thrown to a huge elephant, as he had done with many criminals before him. But in the arena, something suddenly happened that left the spectators in complete shock. 😨

That Sunday, a heavy heat had hung over the city since morning. The enormous arena was already filled with people. On the high stands sat rich merchants, soldiers, senators’ wives, and the common folk who came here every Sunday for the terrible spectacle. The people were noisy, arguing, eating fruit, and waiting for the moment when more criminals would be led out onto the sand.

In the center of the arena stood a huge war elephant.

Every resident of the city knew this animal. The massive elephant, covered in heavy armor, had served the great Caesar for many years. Metal ornaments hung from its tusks, and its legs were so massive that every step kicked up clouds of sand and dust. People said that this elephant had already trampled dozens of criminals right before the crowd’s eyes.

Caesar himself sat high above the arena on a golden throne, watching the proceedings with cold interest. The people feared and hated him, but no one dared to say it out loud. The ruler had one cruel law — anyone who broke the rules had to die publicly, so that others would be afraid even to think of committing crimes.

When the trumpets blared loudly over the arena, the soldiers began to lead out the prisoners.

One by one, the criminals were thrown onto the sand. Some begged for mercy, some tried to run, but there was no escape. On one side stood the huge elephant, on the other — Caesar’s armed men with spears and swords.

The crowd roared with both horror and delight at the same time.

After several executions, people had almost stopped being surprised by the screams of others. But suddenly the gates opened again, and the entire arena unexpectedly fell silent.

A little boy was led out onto the sand.

He was thin, dirty, and barefoot. The child’s clothes hung in tattered pieces, and his hands trembled so much that he could barely stay on his feet. The boy kept looking around, not understanding where he was being taken. One of the soldiers roughly pushed him forward, and the child fell to his knees in the hot sand.

The crowd whispered.

Many immediately realized that before them was neither a murderer nor a dangerous criminal.

Caesar slowly rose from his throne and announced loudly:

— This thief stole food from my table.

A murmur ran through the stands again.

It turned out the boy was an orphan. He hadn’t eaten for days and had snuck into the palace at night to steal a small piece of bread and meat. But the guards caught him near the kitchen.

Caesar looked down at the child with contempt.

— If I forgive one hungry thief today, tomorrow the whole city will start stealing.

The crowd fell silent.

The boy knelt, breathing heavily. His eyes were full of fear. He looked first at the soldiers, then at the huge elephant slowly approaching him, its heavy armor clanking.

Every step of the animal made the arena tremble.

Some people on the stands had already turned away, knowing what was about to happen. Women covered their faces with their hands, and some quietly said that the child should be released.

But Caesar just smirked.

The elephant came very close. The boy closed his eyes and began to cry.

At that moment, something so terrible happened in the arena that the entire crowd froze in complete shock. 😳😮 The continuation of this interesting story can be found in the first comment 👇

The huge elephant suddenly stopped right in front of the child. For a few seconds, there was dead silence.

Then the animal slowly lowered its head and gently touched the boy with its trunk, as if trying to calm him. The child opened his eyes in fright, and the elephant suddenly began to shield him from the soldiers with its body.

A frightened noise rolled through the stands. Caesar abruptly rose from his throne.

One of the warriors tried to poke the elephant with his spear, but in that same instant, the animal let out such a loud roar that people jumped from their seats in fear. The huge elephant unexpectedly turned toward the soldiers and struck the sand furiously with its foot, not letting anyone near the boy.

The crowd was horrified.

No one had ever seen this animal disobey an order.

The boy trembled near the elephant’s front legs, while the elephant itself continued to stand before him like a living wall.

Then one old man among the spectators suddenly turned pale and shouted:

— I recognize this child…

People began turning to him, and Caesar himself slowly frowned.

The old man pointed a trembling hand at the boy and said quietly:

— He is the son of the very man who once saved this elephant when it was still a calf…

After these words, the entire arena fell into such silence that only the heavy, wheezing breath of the enormous animal could be heard.
