The plan did not form immediately. For several weeks, he carefully considered every detail and finally decided to act.
One evening, he suggested that his wife go out of town for a little rest. Victoria suspected nothing and agreed.
On the way, Alex secretly mixed a sleeping drug into her drink. After some time, she fell asleep.
When the car turned onto a forest road, there were no houses or people anywhere. It was a cold winter night. Snow lay between the trees, and the wind shook the bare branches.
Alex stopped the car, got out, and listened to the silence for a while.
Then he opened the door, lifted his wife in his arms, and walked deeper into the forest.
He wanted to leave her as far from the road as possible—somewhere she would not easily find her way back.
Alex walked for a long time between the trees until he noticed a large old tree with a wide trunk.

Looking up, he saw a wolf. A huge gray beast stood only a few meters away, staring directly at him.

But there was no one behind him. The wolf had not chased him at all. Instead, it returned to where the woman lay and sat beside her.
